| Bay District Volunteer Fire Department personnel responded Monday evening after a single vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in the area of St. Andrews Church Road and Old St. Andrews Church Road.
The incident was dispatched on July 20, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m. as a motor vehicle collision with unknown injuries. Initial reports indicated one vehicle was involved, the vehicle was smoking, and it was not immediately known whether anyone was trapped or injured. Additional information received by emergency communications a short time later indicated one occupant was trapped inside the vehicle.
Bay District Station 9, Squad 7, Squad 1, and surrounding EMS companies were alerted to the incident. Engine 91, ET94, and Chief 3B responded, with Engine 91 arriving to find one vehicle off the roadway and against a tree with one occupant trapped. Engine 91 established command and confirmed the need for extrication.
Fire Chief 1 Trossbach arrived on the scene and assumed command. Sergeant Santivasci, the officer of Engine 91, was assigned as the Extrication Group Supervisor. Squad 1 arrived shortly after and began extrication operations. Crews worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle, gain access to the trapped occupant, and safely remove the patient.
Extrication was completed within approximately five minutes. Squad 7 was placed in service before arrival or shortly after it was determined additional rescue resources were not needed.
One patient refused medical treatment at the scene, and one patient was transported to a local hospital with injuries reported as non-life-threatening. Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 was initially requested to transport one patient by air, but the helicopter response was later canceled.
The roadway was temporarily closed in both directions while crews operated, allowing firefighters, rescue personnel, EMS providers, and law enforcement to work safely at the scene. Command was later terminated, with Engine 91 remaining on scene briefly to assist before clearing.
