By Bay District Volunteers
May 26, 2026

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Engine Tanker 94, Engine Tanker 34, Chief 9B, and Safety 3 responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 23800 block of Hollywood Road. The call was dispatched at approximately 9:21 a.m. after multiple 911 callers reported smoke and fire coming from a single-family home.

Engine Tanker 94 responded with four personnel, along with Chief 9B, for a total response of five personnel from the station. Engine Tanker 34 and Safety 3 also responded to support the incident. Initial reports indicated heavy smoke visible from the residence, with additional callers reporting fire showing from the home. First-arriving units found a single-family dwelling with fire showing from the front of the structure.

Upon arrival, Engine Tanker 94 was assigned as the Rapid Intervention Team, a crew designated to stand by and assist firefighters in the event of an emergency on the fireground. The crew established its position on Side A of the structure and deployed an attack line from Engine 71. Engine Tanker 94 personnel also obtained a RIT pack from Truck 7 to support firefighter safety operations.

As suppression efforts continued, Engine Tanker 94’s line was charged and used to extinguish visible fire on the exterior of the structure. Engine Tanker 94 was later assigned as the RIT supervisor and was given Squad 5’s crew to assist with the assignment. The crew advanced the attack line to a second-floor window on the Delta side of the home to continue fire suppression from the exterior.

Engine Tanker 34 supported fireground operations, with the crew assisting with on-scene assignments while the apparatus was used to shuttle water as part of the water supply operation. Safety 3 also assisted on scene, supporting firefighter safety and operational oversight during the incident.

Due to deteriorating interior conditions, including reported floor compromise, command maintained a defensive posture for portions of the operation. All crews were accounted for during the incident, and utilities were secured by SMECO. The Maryland State Police assisted with road closures in the area of Hollywood Road while firefighters operated on scene.

One occupant was reported displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross and fire marshal were requested to assist. Firefighters continued overhaul operations after the bulk of the fire was knocked down, including work on the Charlie side of the structure to locate and extinguish remaining hot spots.

Command reported the fire out at approximately 10:48 a.m. After units were restored and equipment was returned to service, Engine Tanker 94 was released from the scene and placed back in service.

Residents are reminded to have working smoke alarms on every level of the home and to practice a home fire escape plan with all household members.
