Special Weather Statement: Elevated Fire Risk – Caution Urged

Issued by: National Weather Service, Baltimore MD/Washington DC

Due to dry conditions and gusty winds, there is an elevated risk of fire across the region. Relative humidity levels are expected to fall between 20-30%, accompanied by westerly winds sustained at 10-15 mph, with gusts reaching 20-25 mph. These factors will contribute to the rapid drying of fine fuels such as grasses and leaves, increasing the potential for fires to ignite and spread quickly.

We strongly urge all residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution. Please refrain from any outdoor burning until conditions improve. Handling open flames or equipment that creates sparks during this period can lead to unintended fires. In addition, ensure that cigarette butts, matches, and other flammable materials are disposed of in appropriate containers, and avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.

Your cooperation is critical to preventing dangerous wildfires. Please check with your local authorities for burn restrictions and wildfire safety guidelines. For more information on wildfire danger and prevention, visit your state's forestry or environmental protection websites.

Thank you for your understanding and commitment to keeping our community safe.
