By Bay District Volunteers
May 9, 2024

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 12:47 p.m., St. Mary’s County Emergency Communications sprang into action, dispatching Bay District Station 3 (Lexington Park), NDWFD Engine 132, and surrounding EMS resources to the intersection of North Essex Drive and Saratoga Drive in Lexington Park. The call was in response to a distressing motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, Fire Chief 3 (J. Gould) found a scene marked by a single vehicle collision with a mini bike, the adult male operator tragically lying injured in the roadway.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, emergency responders swiftly mobilized, requesting the assistance of a Maryland State Police Helicopter. In a display of rapid coordination and expertise, Trooper 7 of the Maryland State Police Helicopter Unit swiftly landed nearby to provide critical support.

The injured pedestrian was expeditiously transported by Trooper 7 to a nearby trauma center, where they are currently receiving urgent medical attention for their injuries. Thankfully, no other injuries were reported among the occupants of the motor vehicle involved in the collision.

This unfortunate incident underscores the importance of maintaining vigilance and caution on our roadways, particularly in residential areas. We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all those affected by this incident and express our deepest gratitude to the swift and decisive actions of our emergency responders.
