On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Bay District Stations 3 Lexington Park) and 9 (California), Second District, Hollywood, Leonardtown, and Solomons responded promptly to a reported structure fire at St. Mary’s Square, located at 21600 Great Mills Road.

Upon arrival, responding crews were met with smoke emanating from the rear of the 1-story strip mall. Acting swiftly, firefighters discovered multiple wooden pallets ablaze on the loading dock of Potomac Total Fitness, situated at the rear of the building.

Utilizing their expertise and resources, firefighters successfully extinguished the fire in under 10 minutes, with no signs of extension. Despite the challenging circumstances, emergency responders maintained their focus and dedication, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

Firefighters remained on the scene for one hour, diligently ensuring that all potential hazards were addressed and the area secured.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident, underscoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency response efforts.

The cooperation and coordination among the responding fire departments exemplify their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents and businesses within the community.
