January 6, 2024

Callaway, MD - On Friday, January 5, 2024, at 10:33 a.m., Station 6 (SDVFDRS) and Station 3 (Bay District VFD) and EMS resources were dispatched for a commercial vehicle fire at Take It Easy Campground, located at 45285 Take It Easy Ranch Road in Callaway. At 10:38 the alarm was upgraded to a structure fire bringing the remainder of the structure fire assignment (including Bay District Station 9). The incident involved a 5th wheel camper with initial concerns of a subject possibly trapped inside.

Upon the arrival of Fire Chief 3 (J. Gould) he found the 5th wheel camper ablaze. Fortunately, all occupants were quickly accounted for, ensuring a rapid and coordinated response to the emergency situation.

Firefighters worked diligently and efficiently, bringing the fire under control in under 25 minutes. The collaborative efforts of the responding units prevented the escalation of the incident and protected the surrounding areas of the campground.

Remarkably, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire, highlighting the effectiveness of the emergency response and the importance of practiced safety measures within the campground.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is actively investigating the cause of the fire to ascertain the events leading up to the incident.
