Lusby, Maryland – On Sunday, December 10, 2023, at approximately 4:35 p.m., emergency responders from Stations 9 and 3, alongside various St. Mary’s County departments, raced to 1395 Gregg Drive in Lusby, following reports of a house fire with animals trapped inside.

Upon arrival, Solomons VRSFD Chief 3 found a single-family home engulfed in flames, with fire breaching the roof. Recognizing the immediate need for additional resources, Chief 3 swiftly requested a tanker task force due to the limited water supply in the area.

A coordinated effort involving over 45 firefighters from Calvert, St. Mary’s, and Charles County ensued, resulting in the successful control and containment of the fire within under one hour.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The fire was initially discovered by an occupant of the home, who promptly alerted other residents.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the occupants; however, tragically, one dog lost its life in the incident. The affected residents have been displaced as a consequence of the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross during this challenging time.
