Gas Leak in Wildewood
By Bay District Volunteers
June 1, 2023
After initially being dispatched to Crimson Drive in Park Hall for the gas leak and finding nothing St. Mary's Communications called the person reporting it back and found the address was Crimson Lane and Sycamore Hollow Drive in Wildewood. Units responded from Park Hall to Wildewood and Hollywood were also added to the call.
Hollywood units arrived on the scene and confirmed an active leak due to an underground gas line being struck by construction crews. Crews began evacuating citizens in the immediate area and natural gas readings were taken throughout the area and adjoining neighborhoods resulting in additional homeowners being evacuated due to wind and weather conditions. Approximately over 100 homeowners were evacuated due to the leak.
Fire crews awaited the arrival of Washington Gas to stop the leak. Once Washington Gas arrived on the scene and secured the leak additional readings were taken throughout the area to determine that it was safe for the residents to return to their homes. Crews operated on the scene for over 4 hours during this incident and refreshments were brought to the scene by the Associates of the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department.
