Southern Maryland Fireman's Association Parade and More.....

I have been quiet for a while so thought I would cover a few items all at one time. First off we had the big Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman's Association parade in Leonardtown and we decided that we were going to try and win one of those awards for best appearing companies so we cleaned both stations with all the rolling stock. Our members worked all week cleaning the apparatus and it showed as the stuff was gleaming. I think we had a total of 17 pieces in the line of the parade along with a fire prevention float. When it was time for the awards the department didn't win the big one but we did come in for 2nd best appearing company in the association and that was a first for us. In addition to that award our fire prevention committee headed by firefighter Grace Roloson won the Roland Duke award and the 1st place in the year round class 5 along with an award for special projects during the year. I know that our fire prevention committee were extremely proud as they should be. So got a few pictures that I would like to show you.
On the second story and this one was special when we were contacted by Brownie troop 6702 of California about putting on a dinner for all the firefighters at station 9. This was in return for a tour that the members gave to the girls a few days earlier. So on Wednesday night May 15th the young ladies and their moms descended on the firehouse with tons of food and deserts. There was spaghetti and baked ziti pasta with all kinds of goodies mixed in. We had a side salad and cheesy garlic bread along with tea and lemonade to drink. Now after a fine meal we had our desserts of fresh fruit, lemon meringue cake and blueberry cheesecake fluff. O I forgot to mention we also had Brownies.
Now we were kind of blown away from all the attention given by these young ladies and they even waited on us. After a wonderful meal and fellowship with the parents we decided that we would like to do something special for the girls so the firefighter put on a demonstration of just what they do during a call from sliding down the fire pole to manning the engine and responding to a vehicle fire in the rear of the station. They flowed some water and even allowed the girls to try their hand at working the hose line.
So it was a good night enjoyed by all and we would like to give a special thanks to Lisa Bruns and Troop 6702 for thinking about us.
