| The members of Bay District have started the month off busy supporting our community with fire prevention activities. In the first few days of August the members have participated in 7 fire prevention activities. It started on August 2nd with our annual invitation to St Cecelia's Church to participate in their annual picnic.
Once again, with an invite from Mrs. Carroll, Sparky and a crew from Bay District headed down to the church for a visit with some pretty excited kids. We have attended their church picnic for many years now and the kids love to get the bags of fire prevention materials and fire hats that Sparky brings each year. As usual they are never shy about feeding us and making us feel so welcome. After some good food and all the kids had a picture with Sparky we sprayed them all down with the fire truck hose! They had a great time, as did we. We Hope to see them again next year!
On our next event we were off to a community picnic at the Chancellor's Run Regional Park. It's was a good crowd with lots of kids. Bay District came through again and managed to get 3 pieces of apparatus out for the event. There were plenty to do for the kids. They had a moon bounce, snow cones, cotton candy and a popcorn machine. And the food, well there was enough to feed an army!! Boy, it sure was good. The kids loved climbing up in the fire trucks and screamed with joy when they were sprayed down by the water hose. We love to help out the community events whenever we can.
No matter the size of the group we do our best to do what we can. We also visited the Hickory Hills Club house to say Hello to the Cub scouts. With about 23 of the Cub scouts and their parents, a good time was had by all at this event!
Out again to keep the kids cool and spread the word about fire safety! The members of Bay district again paid a visit to the Lexington Park Baptist Church's Summer Camp. It was a little bit on the cool side but that didn't stop the little ones from jumping into the spray of water from the fire truck! A few even got into some shaving cream before they hit the sprinkler! And we also had a few that wanted to try their hand at the hose themselves. Our fire fighters really love making the kids smile.
On august 3 we assisted St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office with their D.A.R.E. Program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. As we have for many years, we like to help out our police department with their D.A.R.E. program.
With the summer flying by us we try to visit as many of the summer camps as possible. Next on our list was a visit to the Lexington Park Elementary Summer Camp. We have such a great time spending time with all the kids and letting them know how important it is to be fire safe!
Last, but definitely not least we participated in the National Night Out Program. It was that time again and what a great turn out we had! Both Bay District stations 3 & 9 loaded up and headed out to many locations here around Great Mills, Lexington Park and the California areas. The communities came out with their families & the local police departments to have their block parties. Our members really enjoy this night as we get to go out and see the kids have such a great time getting hosed down with the water from the trucks. Of course we also carry our fire prevention materials to hand out to all the kids that they love. We appreciate the invite from our friends in Essex South, Lord Calvert, Lexwood Drive and Westbury. And we send out a big "Thank You" for all the good food the community provided our members as we came around for a visit. We'll see you again next year!
