By Fire Captain Daniel Burroughs
April 22, 2015

At around 17:20 Company 3 was dispatched along with Company 6 for the an overturned vehicle into a tree with subject trapped.

Rescue 3 with 5 volunteers quickly loaded up and were responding within a minute of dispatch. A Chief 6 arrived on scene first and reported a single vehicle on the drivers side and its roof against a tree. The occupant was trapped inside. Rescue Engine 62 arrived just ahead of Rescue 3 moments after Chief 6. Rescue 3 quickly went to work on stabilizing the vehicle to the tree as Rescue Engine 62 deployed a safety line and their rescue tools. The crew from 62 worked to remove the rear section of the roof to gain access to the occupant. Rescue 3's crew continued to assess the stabilization as the vehicle was being dismantled. After a short time the occupant was reached and the medic on scene assessed the patient. At this time the medic confirmed the occupant had passed away.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's office began to reconstruct the accident. Once that was completed Rescue 3 repositioned and used its portable winch to lower the vehicle to the ground. 62 finished removing the roof of the vehicle and Rescue 3 assisted removing the occupant. Crews were able to return to service by 20:00 hours.

The members of Bay District VFD wish to express our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the victim.
