By Fire Captain Daniel Burroughs
March 14, 2015

Just after 2100 hours Companies 6 & 3 were alerted for a single vehicle MVA with roll over and subjects trapped.

Rescue 3 responded shortly after dispatch as well as Chief 3. The ambulance from station 39 arrived on the scene first finding a single vehicle over turned in a field. The vehicle had two occupants inside and were unable to self extricate. Chief 3 arrived next and established the command. Rescue Engine 62 arrived next and started to stabilize the vehicle and deployed a safety line for crews during the extrication. Captain 6 held the rescue group op. Rescue 3 arrived shortly after and quickly assisted finishing up the stabilization. Rescue 3 deployed it's two gas power hydraulic units and several rescue tools. The crews first cut the post on the drivers side and folded the roof down but that ended up interfering with the second patient. Crews went ahead and removed the roof completely. After the roof was removed the passenger was removed and handed over to awaiting ems followed by the driver.

From the arrival time of Rescue Engine 62 it took 20 minutes to remove both occupants. Rt. 5 was shut down for about 45 minutes and longer for tractor trailers due to low hanging telephone wires due to the pole being knocked down. The Maryland State Helicopter was requested but was not available due to weather. Crews were able to restore there units and return to service with in an hour.
