At 0537 Companies 9 and 3 were dispatched to the 11000 block of Rawhide Rd in Calvert County for the reported working house fire. Chief 3 from SVRSFD arrived on scene and reported the house was well involved with fire and exterior operations would be needed. Engine 91 arrived on scene and assisted with the initial attack. Engine 33 arrived on scene shortly after and was asked to establish a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). After the fire placed under control by command Engine 33 packed up all RIT gear and was reassigned to fill-in St. Leonard (Calvert Company 7). Meanwhile Engine 91 stayed on scene and assisted with extinguishment of hot spots and salvage/overhaul operations.

While operating on the scene of this incident we learned that this tragic fire involved “One of Our Own”, the home belonged to a firefighter from Solomon’s VRSFD. The firefighter was on duty at the firehouse and responding to this call. The members of Solomon’s VRSFD have set up a relief fund to help this firefighter get back on his feet, the link for the fund is listed below.

As Engine 33 was on the air being relieved by Prince Frederick's Engine 22 at Company 7 they were dispatched to a reported Chimney Fire on St. Leonard Rd. Upon investigation by Engine 22 the assignment was placed in service. Shortly after returning from Calvert Company 9 and 3 units were dispatched back to Calvert County for another Chimney Fire on Laurel Way. Both units were staged and put back in service shortly after arriving in staging.

Thank you to Engine 132 (NDWFD) and Engine 44 (Ridge VFD) for covering our first due while our units were operating in Calvert County.
