Making good use of the Yellow Hi-Rise

October 6, 2014

October 6, 2014 drill night around the station and as we have had a pretty heavy training schedule and tonight was not going to be any different. Since the erection of our new training building the training staff has been using it most every Monday. I think the building has turned out to be more than we expected. It allows the training staff to do different scenarios covering all the aspects of firefighting. We set fires in the building to create heavy smoke and heat, we laddered the building and using a dummy (not me) to do rescue work.

Under the supervision of “A” chief Joe Gould and training officer Richard “Sully” Sullivan the crews were given what they could expect and it was up to them from there on out. After their decision it was critiqued by the other officers. I was kind of amazed how much heat you could generate in the different levels but the crews came out ready to shed their turnouts and take a breather.

We continued to work the crews switching them around and after about two hours it was decided to call it a night. I think that all had a good time and it was a learning experience for the new guys and not bad practice for some of the old timers like F/F Tommy Blazer.

So my photo taker Associate Jamie Olson took about 300 pictures but rest easy I’m only going to put a few on here for all to enjoy. I like to get as many of our members as I can because they deserve all the recognition they can get for the work they do and no I don’t care about elections coming up in 11 days and 14 hours.

Now I know that we will be using the downtown yellow “Hilton” plenty in the coming weeks. It would be real nice if some of the other departments would contact our Training Officer “Sully” and see if they could come down. I know that won’t be a problem with him as he loves to see firefighters training no matter what department they are from. I promise to take your picture.
