By Firefighter Daniel Burroughs
April 5, 2012

At 1:39 am on April 5 Company's 9, 3, 7 and Calvert 3 were alerted to a house fire on Esperanza Drive. Engine 32 (Sgt. Tiscon), Truck 3 (Sgt Thomas) and Chief 3 (Downs) responded at dispatch. Engine 72 responded with 6, Engine 91 responded with 4 and Engine 834 responded with 5 within minutes of dispatch. A total of 28 personnel responded.

At 1:44am Engine 32 arrived and dropped a supply line at the intersection of Esperanza Drive and West Bayview and assumed first due responsibilities. Engine 32 arrived on scene and advised they had a single story residential with smoke from the rear. Truck 3 arrived on scene and started throwing ground ladders to the house. At this time Chief 3 arrived on scene and established command. Sgt. Tiscon advised no smoke was in the house and appeared to be in the rear of the house and had his crew deploy a 1 3/4" line through the house to attack the seat of the fire. Engine 91 arrived and picked up Engine 32's line.

At 1:48am Engine 32 advised the fire was knocked and appeared to have no extension into the house. Command at this time held Engine's 32 & 91 and Truck 3 and released all other units also advising the fire was contained to the back deck of the house and was started by the BBQ grill. After crew's mopped up the area, Command was terminated at 2:14 am and all units returned to their stations. Crew operated for a little over 30 minutes.
